Job summary

The YMCA of Montclair is seeking an Early Childhood Assistant Teacher to support the classroom teacher and help create a safe, engaging environment for children. You will assist with instructional tasks, supervise activities, and help prepare materials and bulletin boards under the direction of the Early Childhood Group Teacher.

Candidates should be at least 18 with a high school diploma, 2 years of classroom experience, and be prepared to obtain CPR/First Aid/EPI within 90 days.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• High school diploma and 2 years classroom experience with children.
• Must enroll in a CDA program within the first year of employment if only HS diploma.
• Must possess, maintain CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid and EPI within 90 days of hire.
• Ability to take charge of a group of children and create activities on short notice.
• Stamina and physical flexibility to participate in children's activities and lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Greet children and parents, monitor illness and safety.
• Assist lead teacher with instructional lessons.
• Supervise children during outdoor activities and drills.
• Prepare learning materials and classroom displays.
• Record children's progress and incidents for evaluation.
• Attend mandatory trainings and meetings.
