Position Summary:
Under the supervision of Assistant Benefits Manager, responsible for the design, planning and implementation of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe Wellness Plan for associates. Develop comprehensive community wellness programs that encourage good physical and mental health, and will improve the wellbeing of the enterprise associates by reducing chronic disease and improving quality of life.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan, develop, and implement wellness and disease management programs.
- Collaborate with Tribal programs to coordinate current Tribal program activities into wellness planning.
- Conduct review of current Tribal programs and employee benefits to list services, community resources and benefits. Leverage the findings to tie back to wellness programming and participant communication.
- Serve as a liaison between wellness carrier, programs, benefits and wellness participants.
- Manage the budget for the wellness program, including allocating funds for program activities, resources and incentives.
- Assess participant needs by analyzing claim reports and other available Tribal program information to help focus wellness programming and to make appropriate cost containment recommendations.
- Research grants and works with grant department to secure wellness funding.
- Develop metrics to track program participation and tie program expense back to outcomes.
- Create a culture of wellness throughout the organization.
- Conduct wellness participant education and information meetings.
- Develop and distribute wellness related communication pieces, including, but not limited to: Newsletters, posters, and health observances pieces.
- Develop, implement, and monitor wellness related electronic marketing initiatives.
- Develop criteria for program participants.
- Design programming incentives to modify behavior.
- Create programming to support health care plan design changes and communicate prevention benefits available.
- Develop an education program for participants to educate them on their benefit plan and how to manage it with the tools available.
- Create and conduct training (carrier resources) to assist participants in investigating and understanding their own claim situations and potential cost of care.
- Facilitate wellness sub-committees to target specific areas of the participant population.
- Adhere to employee confidentiality and complies with HR policies and federal regulations under the Privacy rules of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
- Provide excellent customer service for all internal and external customers of the operations at all times. Provide solutions for customer concerns and continually focus on customer service as our top priority.
- Must maintain strict confidentiality and present a positive, professional demeanor and image at all times.

Contacts/Purpose of Contacts:
- Contacts with Tribal Community, enterprise associates, vendors, management, and enterprise departments to coordinate, plan and implement wellness programs and activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Education, Public Health, Human Resources, or related field.
- Two years health, wellness, or Human Resources related program experience.
- An equivalent combination of education and directly related experience may be considered.
- Experience in implementing and managing projects.
- Demonstrated health insurance industry knowledge preferred.
- Solid analytical, planning and organization skills.
- Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office programs.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Must be able to pass background check to meet the employment eligibility requirements as they pertain to the position.
License, Certification, or Special Requirements:
- Ability to obtain HIPAA training and certification within probationary period.
- Native American preference shall apply to all positions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of applicable federal, state, tribal laws, regulations and requirements.
- Knowledge and understanding of wellness program, principles, practices, procedures, and documentation.
- Knowledge and skill in business writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
- Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including in a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Skill in database and record maintenance.
- Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to help individuals change behavior.
- Ability to develop presentations and educational seminars, workshops, etc.
- Ability to handle challenging situations with tact, maturity, and patience.Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to present in front of large groups.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

Physical Demands:
- Frequent use of hands, wrists, fingers associated with computer equipment.
- Required to sit for extended periods of time.
- Occasionally walk and stand and reach with arms and hands.
- Normal visual acuity, ability to talk and hear.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
- Normal office environment.
- Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
