Regular, Full-Time, Limited-Term (not to exceed two (2) years in duration from date of hire), RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit (PCSU), Three Mountain Alliance (TMA), located in Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park on the Island of Hawai‘i. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

MONTHLY SALARY: $4,703/Mon.

DUTIES

• Facilitates development of strategic level and detailed species/project-specific plans and proposals.
• Develops strategic goals, and metrics for implementation.
• Facilitates planning meetings and ensures partner participation and satisfaction with the planning process.
• Tracks implementation status of existing plans and develops summary reports.
• Assists the Three Mountain Alliance (TMA) Program Manager to develop and implement new projects.
• Assists in project/grant development and reporting.
• Facilitates communications and relationships with TMA members, departmental staff, government agencies, and non-governmental partners in order to facilitate cooperation.
• Performs fieldwork, including site visits, biological surveys, data collection, and inspections for the above activities.
• Assists with outreach and planting activities.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

Bachelor`s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Biological, Environmental, or related sciences with basic or related biology courses.

EXPERIENCE

• Two to four (2-4) years of experience in natural resources or related field.
• Two to four (2-4) years of experience in field data collection, including data entry, analysis, and information synthesis.
• Two to four (2-4) years of experience in independent report writing.
• At least two (2) years of experience with field project planning and implementation.

KNOWLEDGE

• Working knowledge of the principles of ecology and conservation, Hawaiian biota, and watershed threats.
• Proficient knowledge of environment factors, and of how to implement and monitor a multi-faceted natural resource related project or program.
• Basic understanding of rules and policies pertinent to personnel safety, fiscal, and operational matters.

ABILITIES & SKILLS

• Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing.
• Excellent organizational, public relations, and management skills.
• Must be able to work effectively with multiple and varied partners/stakeholders.
• Proficient with word-processing, spreadsheet, and presentation programs (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Suite).
• Must possess a valid driver`s license (and if use of personal vehicle on the job is required, must also have valid personal driver`s insurance equivalent to Hawai‘i`s No-Fault Driver`s Insurance) and maintain throughout the duration of employment.

Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must possess the American Red Cross Certification or equivalent training in First Aid/CPR (or be able to obtain and maintain the certificate following the training provided within three (3) months from date of hire and maintain throughout duration of employment). Must complete the online Hazard Communication training immediately after hire or no later than employee`s initial exposure to hazardous chemicals.

PHYSICAL/MEDICAL DEMANDS: Ability to work outdoors on extremely rough terrain and under adverse weather conditions.

POLICY/REGULATORY REQUIREMENT: As a condition of employment, employee will be subject to all applicable RCUH policies, procedures, and trainings and, as applicable, subject to University of Hawai‘i's and/or business entity's policies, procedures, and trainings. SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS

• Demonstrated experience writing strategic plans or management plans.
• Experience working with multiple stakeholders, collaborative management, strategic planning, management plan writing, and project management.
• Knowledge of threats from incipient alien plant and animal invasions.
• Experience working in the TMA Management area, or elsewhere with control of invasive species.
• Previous experience monitoring and mapping vegetation and stream resources in the TMA Management area or similar environments.
• Expertise with database (Microsoft Access) and GIS (Arcview) and GPS (Garmin) systems.
