Job summary

Traverse City Area Public Schools is seeking a Title I Instructional Assistant to provide Math and Reading support at Cherry Knoll Elementary School in Traverse City, Michigan. This part-time role (2.65 hours/day) supports teachers and reinforces learning for individual students or small groups.

Requirements include an Associate’s degree or 60 college credits, strong interpersonal skills, experience with children, and ability to work independently.

Qualifications

• Minimum education requirement is an Associate’s degree or 60 credit hours.
• Interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively and courteously with students and school personnel.
• Previous experience working with children.
• Ability to care for, supervise, and nurture children.
• Ability to follow directions.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to assist with maintaining records of student progress.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to resolve conflict.
• Dependable, reliable, and protective of sensitive/confidential information.

Responsibilities

• Works with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
• Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on individual students’ needs, interests, and abilities.
• Helps students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
• Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
• Assists students in reading aloud and participates in other verbal activities with students.
• Alerts the regular teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
• Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and parents.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
