Job summary

Norfolk Public School District is seeking a Title I Preschool Coach in Norfolk, VA. This full-time, 12-month role includes 7.5 hours/day and 240 days/year, with the position funded for one year contingent upon Title I funding. Salary ranges from $72,171 to $98,727 per year.

The coach will provide regular individualized support to pre-K teachers and paraprofessionals, observe classes with CLASS-PK, and assist with professional development plans and sessions.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree required.
• Eligible for, or in possession of, Virginia Teaching License with preschool endorsement.
• CLASS-PK certification within first year of employment.
• At least four years of classroom experience in an early learning setting.
• Experience providing individual coaching and group professional development.
• Leadership ability (organizational, managerial, administrative skills).
• Experience and skill in using technology.

Responsibilities

• Provide regular, individualized coaching to pre-K teachers and paraprofessionals based on CLASS-PK observations and feedback.
• Prepare materials for consultation sessions per defined protocols.
• Observe PK classes twice a year using CLASS-PK tool.
• Assist teachers with development and implementation of professional development plans.
• Conduct professional development sessions during the year.
• Attend division-level team meetings.
• Maintain logs of classroom visits and coaching notes.
• Meet with school administration as needed.
• Maintain professional competence by attending staff development and curriculum meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the department administrator.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must possess a Master’s Degree
• Eligible for, or in possession of, appropriate Virginia Teaching License with preschool endorsement
• In possession of or willing to work toward CLASS-PK Certification within the first year of employment
• At least four years of successful classroom experience as a teacher in an early learning setting
• Experience with providing individual coaching and group professional development
• Leadership ability (i.e. organizational, managerial, and administrative skills)
• Personal characteristics conducive to working effectively with students, teachers, school personnel, community groups, and parents
• Experience and skill in using technology

Nature of Position

• Provide regular, individualized coaching support to pre-K teachers and paraprofessionals on the quality of their interactions with their students as evidenced by CLASS-PK observations and feedback
• Prepare all necessary materials for consultation sessions following pre-defined protocols
• Observe assigned PK classes twice a year (or as per VDOE requirement) using the CLASS-PK observation tool
• Assist teacher with development and implementation of required professional development plans
• Conduct professional development sessions throughout the year as assigned
• Actively participate in division-level team meetings
• Maintain logs of classroom visits and notes of coaching sessions
• Meet with school administration as needed or requested
• Maintains professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings, and other professional activities
• Performs any other related duties as assigned by the department administrator

NOTE: This position is for one year only and contingent upon Title I funding.
