Job summary

Eastern Upper Peninsula AppliTrack Consortium in Newberry, MI invites applications for a Paraprofessional in the Special Education/District department. The paraprofessional will support one or a few students under the supervision of teachers, assisting with physical tasks and reinforcing classroom lessons.

Starting wage is $17.50 per hour per Tahquamenon Area Schools Support Personnel Agreement. Duties include assisting students, coordinating with teachers, and participating in staff development.

Qualifications

  • Complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (equal to 60 semester hours)
  • Obtain an associate's degree (or higher)
  • A passing score on the MTTC Basic Skills Test

POSITION: Paraprofessional

DEPARTMENT: Special Education/District

REPORTS TO: Building Principal/Special Education Director

GENERAL SUMMARY: The paraprofessional will work closely with one or a few students on a regular basis in order to provide them with the physical help and emotional support they need to gain the full benefits from their educational placement under the direction of the supervising teacher(s).

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS
  • Complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (equal to 60 semester hours)*; or
  • Obtain an associate's degree (or higher);
  • A passing score on the score Basic Skills Test MTTC

SKILLS
  • Ability to read textbooks, teacher directives/notes, safety rules and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff and administration.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Other duties may be assigned.

  • To assist assigned students in any physical tasks as directed by supervisor.
  • Give reinforcement and support to students in various course subject areas or as directed by supervisor.
  • Support the teacher on methods, materials and strategies for reinforcements on target students. Teacher plans all lessons and be responsible for instruction.
  • Aid teacher, when requested, in communication between home and school.
  • Participate in on-going staff development as directed.
  • Communicate regularly with teachers as to students' needs and progress.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Monitor students as they arrive from busses in the morning.
  • Supervise student lunch times as directed.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, walk or stand. The employee may be required to offer physical assistance including toileting, or diapering. The employee may also be required to restrain a child.
