Job summary

The Eastern Upper Peninsula AppliTrack Consortium is looking for a Paraprofessional to provide support to students in Special Education. The Paraprofessional will assist students with physical tasks and emotional support to maximize their learning experience.

Ideal candidates should maintain confidentiality, possess strong communication skills, and be willing to undergo necessary training. Compensation starts at $16.00 per hour as per the district agreement.

Responsibilities

  • Assist assigned students in any physical tasks as directed by supervisor.
  • Give reinforcement and support to students in various course subject areas.
  • Support the teacher on methods and materials for reinforcements.
  • Communicate regularly with teachers regarding students’ needs and progress.

Skills

Ability to read textbooks, teacher directives/notes, safety rules and procedures.
Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff and administration.

General Summary
The paraprofessional will work closely with one or a few students on a regular basis to provide them with physical help and emotional support needed to gain the full benefits from their educational placement under the direction of the supervising teacher(s).

  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff and administration.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist assigned students in any physical tasks as directed by supervisor.
  • Give reinforcement and support to students in various course subject areas or as directed by supervisor.
  • Support the teacher on methods, materials and strategies for reinforcements on target students. Teacher plans all lessons and is responsible for instruction.
  • Aid teacher, when requested, in communication between home and school.
  • Participate in ongoing staff development as directed.
  • Communicate regularly with teachers regarding students’ needs and progress.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Monitor students as they arrive from buses in the morning.
  • Supervise student lunch times as directed.
Other Skills and Abilities

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, walk or stand. The employee may be required to offer physical assistance including toileting or diapering, and may also be required to restrain a child.

Physical Demands / Work Environment

The employee is regularly required to talk, hear, sit, stand, and walk; use fingers, hands and arms as required; frequently stoop, crouch, or kneel; and occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with time constraints.

Compensation

Compensation is per Tahquamenon Area Schools Support Personnel Association agreement, with a starting wage currently $16.00 per hour.
