Job summary

Solid Waste Management seeks a Tire Technician responsible for maintenance, tire care and repair of tires on light to heavy-duty vehicles and equipment in Albuquerque, NM. The role requires safe operation, adherence to guidelines, and accurate documentation of services performed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; and One (1) year of tire repair experience.
  • Must possess a valid New Mexico drivers license by date of hire; City Operator's Permit (COP) within six months may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose (and perform repair) malfunctions of tires and suspension.
  • Tire installations, balancing, rotate, repair and inflate tires to prescribed PSI per load requirements.
  • Maintain inventory; order parts, supplies, lubricants, tires and other materials as needed.
  • Organize the work site, vehicles and tools for efficiency and safety.
  • Comply with SWMD policies and procedures in a fast-paced environment.

Job description

This position will be responsible for the maintenance, tire care and repair of Solid Waste tires including light, medium, and heavy-duty automobiles, trucks, and equipment.

Essential functions: Essential functions may include but are not limited to the functions listed below. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  1. Diagnose (and perform repair) malfunctions of tires and suspension.
  2. Tire installations, balancing, rotate, repair and inflation tires to prescribed PSI per load requirements.
  3. Assist in research and implement new tire technologies to improve processes, increase efficiency and analyze performance.
  4. Collect, interpret data and misalignments diagnose performance issues.
  5. Communicate findings to management in clear, productive way.
  6. Proper execution of required billing documents.
  7. Maintain inventory order parts, supplies, lubricants, tires and other materials as needed.
  8. Ability to work with tire assemblies from heavy trucks and SWMD Vehicles.
  9. Organizes the work site, the vehicles and the appropriate tools and equipment for optimum job efficiency and safety.
  10. Ability to work in a fast pace environment while adhering to SWMD policies and procedure.
SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS
  1. Perform general maintenance and cleaning of tire shop area.
  2. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Education directly related to the minimum requirements below may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. High school diploma or GED required; and One (1) year of tire repair experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License or the ability to obtain by date of hire. Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) month from date of hire. Environmental: Shop, field, disposal environment; work around heavy construction equipment; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, potentially hazardous chemicals, waste and infectious materials; inclement weather conditions. Physical: Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for light to heavy lifting and carrying; bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling; standing for prolonged periods of time; operating motorized equipment and vehicles. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. Must be able to function well in a physically demanding environment.
