The Minnesota Star Tribune seeks an ambitious, authoritative reporter to own coverage of the Minnesota Timberwolves at our Minneapolis headquarters. You will develop sources, break news and deliver exclusive reporting with smart analysis across digital platforms.

Expect to own enterprise journalism on roster construction, league dynamics and team business, using audience insights to reach readers across newsletters, live coverage, video and social.

Qualifications

• Significant reporting experience in a fast-paced, digital-first newsroom.
• Ability to develop sources, break news and produce original reporting.
• Strong writing and analytical skills across breaking news, enterprise and explanatory journalism.
• Track record of finding enterprise stories beyond profiles and beat coverage.
• Understanding of digital sports audiences and how data informs coverage.
• Experience covering the NBA or major sports beat preferred; roster construction & salary cap knowledge helps.

Responsibilities

• Own news and enterprise coverage of the Minnesota Timberwolves across digital platforms.
• Develop deep sources to break news and produce exclusive reporting.
• Be a national authority on franchise players and related stories.
• Publish distinctive enterprise journalism on roster construction, ownership and league changes.
• Anticipate audience interests and provide analysis and explanatory journalism.
• Leverage audience insights to reach readers via newsletters, live coverage, video and social.
• Travel to selected games and events when reporting benefits.
• Collaborate with editors, visual journalists and other reporters.
