Job summary

Chart Industries in Canton, GA seeks an experienced TIG welder for a NIGHT shift (3:34pm–2:15am, Mon–Thu). You will weld metal parts, read blueprints, and verify dimensions and tolerances to meet quality standards.

The role requires at least 2 years TIG welding experience, a 3G vertical weld test, BOM interpretation, and strong math skills. Overtime/weekend work may be needed; safety and ISO procedures are emphasized.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years TIG welding experience.
  • Must pass 3G vertical weld test and other weld tests as required.
  • Experience interpreting blueprints and BOM.
  • Basic math skills (weight, volume, distance).
  • Self-starter capable of working with minimal direction.
  • Must measure with tape measures, micrometers and calipers.
  • Overtime and weekend hours may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Independently performs moderate to complex welding activities.
  • Welds metal parts on fixtures and attaches jigs and clamps to hold parts in position.
  • Determines type and gauge of steel and makes heat adjustments for large thickness variations.
  • Uses blueprints and BOMs to ensure proper dimensions and tolerances.
  • Updates and maintains documentation related to job responsibilities.
  • Assumes responsibility and care of tools and equipment.
  • Maintains a clean work area and proper disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Follows ISO standards and safety procedures; may perform mass spec and visual inspections.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

What Will You Do?

This is a NIGHT shift position. The hours are 3:34pm to 2:15am, Monday through Thursday.

  • Independently performs moderate to complex welding activities, including hand welding and material handling equipment
  • Welds metal parts on fixtures including attaching jigs and clamps to hold metal parts in proper position
  • Determines type and gauge of steel to be welded making appropriate heat adjustments, as required, on large thickness variations
  • Uses blueprints and design sketches to ensure the proper dimensions and tolerance levels, as well as correct components installed on the finished product
  • Updates and maintains all required documentation associated with job responsibilities
  • Assume responsibility and care of assigned tools and equipment
  • Maintains a clean work area and general housekeeping standards, such as care for assigned tools and proper disposal of hazardous waste
  • Understands and practices established safety and quality standard procedures, including utilization of chemical solutions to clean containers
  • Performs all tasks to ISO standards and requirements
  • May be required to perform mass spec and visual inspections meeting stringent visual requirements
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this role, including close vision. color evaluations and the ability to adjust to focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration. Medium to loud noise level in the work environment.

Required
Your Experience Should Be...
  • A minimum of 2 years of TIG welding experience
  • Must pass 3G vertical weld test and other weld tests including square butt, fillet, and groove joints depending on specific job requirements
  • Experience interpreting blueprints and bill of materials (BOM)
  • Basic math skills (weight measurement, volume, distance, multiplication and division)
  • Self-starter capable of managing workload under minimal direction and supervision
  • Must be able to measure with accuracy using tape measures, micrometers and calipers
  • Overtime and weekend hours, as needed
Preferred
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Familiar with ISO procedures
  • Knowledge of hazardous waste regulations
