Qualifications

  • TIG (GTAW) welding on stainless steel and other alloys as specified.
  • Must pass a company welding test evaluating technique, quality and fit-up.
  • Read and interpret drawings, isometrics and weld symbols.
  • Produce high-quality welds in multiple positions and pipe sizes.
  • Follow welding procedures, including amperage, gas and filler metal.
  • Prepare materials via cleaning, grinding, beveling and joint prep.
  • Identify welding defects and correct issues to meet standards.
  • Maintain weld quality, tolerances and field safety requirements.
  • Work independently or as part of a team in industrial environments.

Description

The Morgan Corp. Industrial Division is an industrial contractor that self-performs all major trades in industrial markets (power, water/wastewater, water infrastructure, mining, etc.) throughout the Southeast. We pride ourselves on performing quality work safely by developing and executing the best plan.

We are currently looking for a TIG (GTAW) Pipe Welder to join our Industrial Division team. The Pipe Welder is responsible for performing high-quality welding on stainless steel and other applicable alloys in accordance with company quality standards and project specifications. This position requires strong technical welding skills, the ability to interpret fabrication and construction drawings, and a commitment to safety, quality, and productivity in industrial and construction environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform TIG (GTAW) welding on stainless steel and other applicable alloys.
  • Produce high-quality welds in various positions across a range of pipe sizes and material thicknesses.
  • Perform pipe and structural weld fit-up, alignment, and preparation.
  • Read and interpret welding drawings, blueprints, isometric drawings, and weld symbols.
  • Apply proper welding procedures, including the selection and use of appropriate amperage, voltage, shielding gases, tungsten electrodes, and filler metals.
  • Prepare materials for welding through cleaning, grinding, beveling, and joint preparation.
  • Inspect welds and identify welding defects, including porosity, undercut, lack of fusion, and incomplete penetration.
  • Correct welding issues as necessary to ensure compliance with company quality standards and project specifications.
  • Maintain weld quality, appearance, and dimensional tolerances while meeting project requirements.
  • Follow all welding safety requirements, hot-work procedures, and personal protective equipment (PPE) standards.
  • Work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Perform welding activities in a variety of field conditions, including elevated locations, confined spaces, and other difficult-to-access areas when required.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Proficiency in TIG (GTAW) welding on stainless steel and other applicable alloys.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a company-administered welding test prior to starting work. The company welding test may evaluate TIG welding technique, weld quality, fit-up, penetration, appearance, and ability to follow the applicable welding procedure.
  • Ability to perform high-quality welds in multiple positions and on varying pipe sizes and material thicknesses.
  • Skilled in pipe and structural weld fit-up, alignment, and preparation.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding drawings, isometric drawings, and weld symbols.
  • Knowledge of welding procedures, including amperage, voltage, shielding gas selection, tungsten selection, and filler metals.
  • Ability to properly prepare materials and joints through cleaning, grinding, beveling, and other preparation methods.
  • Knowledge of welding defects and the ability to identify and correct issues such as porosity, undercut, lack of fusion, and incomplete penetration.
  • Ability to consistently produce welds that meet quality standards, project specifications, and required tolerances.
  • Knowledge of welding safety practices, hot-work requirements, and proper use of PPE.
  • Ability to work effectively in industrial construction environments, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to perform work in various field conditions, including elevated, confined, and difficult-to-access work areas.
