Oliver Wolcott Technical High School in Torrington is recruiting a Dean of Students (THS Department Head) to join CT's CT Technical Ed and Career System. The role requires an active Connecticut teaching certificate with a secondary endorsement and involves attendance leadership and school-to-career activities. Schedule: 188 days per school year, part time, 7 hours daily Monday-Friday.

Responsibilities

• Serves as the school attendance officer.
• Leads School-to-Career activities, including the CWE components.
• Collaborates with administration, guidance and faculty to develop a school-wide behavior management system with the goal of reducing suspension, tardiness and absenteeism.
• Works with instructors to design individualized student behavioral intervention activities.
• Leads and/or participates in student assistance teams and peer mediation groups and other at‑risk groups as identified through data.
• Designs, implements and evaluates programs to address these issues.
• Provides communication between home and school regarding daily attendance and student discipline issues and follows up as necessary.
• Organizes and coordinates CWE program including facilitating student placement, work-site visitations, review of student’s work with employer and required paperwork.
• Responds to employer requests for placement information.
• Performs related duties as required.

Who We Are

For over 100 years, CTECS has been the leading force in Career Technical Education (CTE) in the State of Connecticut. CTECS operates 17 diploma-granting technical high schools, one technical education center and two airframe mechanics and aircraft maintenance programs. The school system provides a direct employment pipeline for high school students and adult learners.

Special Requirements

Employees, at time of appointment, must possess a valid certificate issued by the Connecticut State Board of Education in accordance with the Certification Regulations Concerning State Educator Certificates, Permits and Authorizations, with a secondary school endorsement.

Preferred Qualifications

• Preferred candidates will have experience in teaching or substitute teaching and be able to demonstrate methods of delivering lessons, assessing student knowledge and the use of educational technology. This may include involvement in student/community activities.
• Preferred candidates will hold an 092 CT Certification, demonstrate experience with tiered intervention practices and student discipline.
• Experience monitoring adolescent behavior, methods of behavior change, school climate studies, and designing alternative discipline strategies.
• Experience in secondary career and technical education.
• Experience tracking area labor market needs and employers within the region.
• Considerable communication skills, considerable interpersonal skills.
