The State of Connecticut, Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) is recruiting an anticipated Math Instructor to join our team at Windham Technical High School in Willimantic, CT.

Position Highlights
  • Schedule: first shift, full time | 188 days per school year, 7 hours daily Monday-Friday
  • Locations: Windham Technical High School in Willimantic, CT
  • Salary: VS01-VS02, derived from the State Vocational Federation of Teachers.
  • Academic Calendar: CTECS follows a ten-month academic calendar (188 days per year.)
CTECS Mathematics Department: Supporting Diverse Student Goals

The Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) Mathematics Department provides a standards-based curriculum designed to support diverse student goals while addressing learning gaps and promoting academic growth. To meet graduation requirements, students must successfully complete a minimum of three mathematics credits.

To accommodate varying academic and career aspirations, CTECS offers multiple mathematics pathways:

Graduation and Career Pathway

This pathway focuses on developing essential mathematical knowledge and skills applicable to both the workplace and everyday life. Students typically complete Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II. Additional elective options, such as Personal Finance with Algebra and Mathematical Applications, allow students to fulfill graduation requirements while strengthening practical mathematical competencies.

College-Preparatory Pathway

Designed for students planning to pursue post-secondary education, this pathway provides opportunities for more advanced study. In addition to the core mathematics sequence, students may enroll in courses such as Statistics, Advanced Algebra, Trigonometry, and Calculus to prepare for college-level coursework.

Honors Pathway

The Honors Pathway offers the most rigorous mathematics program available within CTECS. Intended for highly motivated students seeking a competitive college-preparatory experience, this pathway includes Honors Algebra I, Honors Geometry, Honors Algebra II, Honors Statistics, Honors Trigonometry, Honors Pre-Calculus, and Calculus.

Through these differentiated pathways, the CTECS Mathematics Department ensures that all students receive the mathematical knowledge, skills, and support necessary to achieve their career, technical, and post-secondary goals.

About Us

For over 100 years, CTECS has been the leading force in Career Technical Education (CTE) in the State of Connecticut. CTECS operates 17 diploma-granting technical high schools, one technical education center and two airframe mechanics and aircraft maintenance programs. The school system provides a direct employment pipeline for high school students and adult learners.

Salary Calculations: For current state employees, salary calculations are not necessarily comparable from one of the three branches of state government (i.e., Executive, Legislative, Judicial) to the other.

Purpose of Job Class (Nature of Work)

In the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System this class is accountable for educating students in academic and trade coursework.

Examples of Duties
Responsibility Area #1: Planning and Preparation
  • Engage in intentional planning to prepare lesson plans that achieve clear objectives, use appropriate techniques, and serve the needs of all learners in the classroom through differentiation
  • Knowledge of Math content and pedagogy of high school Mathematics curricula
  • Understand the varied needs of each student
  • Work collaboratively with guidance personnel and other support service educators to assist students with special programming; ensure IEP and 504 accommodations/modifications are implemented
  • Set instructional goals and outcomes
  • Knowledge and use of varied instructional practices and resources
  • Effectively design instructional learning opportunities
  • Effectively design assessments

  • Develop mutual respect and rapport with students

  • Design instruction to meet the needs of all students through both individual and small group settings as needed
  • Utilize assessments on an on-going basis to design clear and specific learning tasks

  • Reflect on teaching practices
  • Maintain accurate records
  • Maintain effective and on-going communication with students and their families
  • Participate in building and district level professional development and collaboration. This will include working with various committees and departments to facilitate educating students

  • Implement the CTECS Board of Education and administrative policies, rules, regulations, and directives

  • Report all cases of suspected child abuse to appropriate school personnel and authorities

  • Experience with 21st century standards-based lesson planning aligned to the CT Core Standards in Mathematics.
  • Experience with varied assessments to inform instruction and promote learning.
  • Experience with communicating ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Experience working collaboratively with others.
  • Experience with organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Experience demonstrating public relations skills.
  • Experience with entry-level computer skills including Microsoft Office and Google Products.
  • Preferred candidates will be able to demonstrate varied methods of lesson delivery, assessing student knowledge, and the use of educational technology. This may include involvement in student/community activities.
Special Requirements

Incumbents must possess at time of appointment a valid certificate issued by the Connecticut State Board of Education in accordance with the Certification Regulations Concerning State Educator Certificates, Permits and Authorizations, with a secondary school endorsement.
