Job summary

Albany Medical Center seeks a skilled Physician Assistant to join the Thoracic Surgery team, with inpatient and multidisciplinary care responsibilities. This full-time role offers exposure to high-acuity surgical cases, ICU management, and collaboration with surgeons, cardiothoracic colleagues, and anesthesia.

The PA will provide care across preop, intraop, and postop phases, contribute to MDT discussions, and educate patients and families.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited PA program with NCCPA certification.
• Active state PA license and prescriptive authority.
• Minimum 2 years' experience in a surgical or hospital-based acute care setting.
• Skilled in ICU management and invasive bedside procedures.
• Strong knowledge of anatomy, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and medical-surgical care.
• Excellent clinical judgment, teamwork, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive care from initial assessment through surgery and postoperative ICU care.
• Assist in diagnosis and surgical management of thoracic diseases including lung cancer and esophageal pathology.
• Perform thoracic surgical procedures such as thoracotomy and VATS.
• Manage postoperative thoracic ICU patients and those requiring advanced life support.
• Conduct preoperative evaluations and informed consent.
• Coordinate postoperative care and monitor for complications.
• Educate patients and families about procedures and recovery.
• Ensure infection control and ICU safety protocols.
