Job summary

Albany Medical Center in New York seeks a skilled Physician Assistant to join our Thoracic Surgery team and contribute across inpatient care and coordinated multidisciplinary efforts. This full-time role offers exposure to a high-acuity surgical setting while also supporting broader hospital-based medical care.

The PA will provide comprehensive care from preop to ICU, participate in MDTs, and educate patients and families. Competitive benefits and growth opportunities are included.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited PA program with current NCCPA certification.
• Active state PA license and prescriptive authority.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in a surgical or hospital-based acute care setting (CT Surgery experience strongly preferred).
• Skilled in ICU management and invasive bedside procedures.
• Strong knowledge of anatomy, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and medical-surgical care.
• Excellent clinical judgment, teamwork, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive care for thoracic patients from initial assessment through surgery and postoperative ICU care.
• Assist in diagnosis and surgical management of thoracic diseases including lung cancer, esophageal pathology, pleural disease, and mediastinal masses.
• Perform or assist thoracic procedures such as thoracotomy and VATS.
• Manage critically ill ICU patients, including postoperative thoracic surgery cases and those requiring advanced life support.
• Conduct preoperative evaluations and contribute to MDT planning and informed consent.
• Monitor ICU patients on ventilation and hemodynamic support; follow ICU protocols.
• Educate patients and families about procedures, ICU care plans, and discharge instructions.
• Maintain infection control protocols and safety standards.
