Position: Full-Time | Reports To: Principal/Director of Academics

Carter G. Woodson School is seeking a dedicated Third Grade Teacher who delivers rigorous instruction, strengthens scholar confidence, and supports measurable academic growth.

Position Overview

The Third Grade Teacher provides standards-based instruction in literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies. This position emphasizes reading comprehension, vocabulary, evidence-based written responses, multiplication and division, and the application of learning across subjects. The teacher prepares scholars for classroom and state assessments through strong daily instruction.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver instruction aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study.
• Strengthen reading fluency and comprehension through literary and informational texts.
• Teach scholars to explain their thinking, use text evidence, and develop organized written responses.
• Build understanding of multiplication, division, fractions, measurement, and multistep problem-solving.
• Use assessments and classroom observations to identify gaps, monitor growth, and adjust instruction.
• Provide differentiated lessons, small-group instruction, and targeted interventions.
• Prepare scholars for assessments while maintaining a broad, engaging curriculum.
• Maintain a structured classroom and reinforce schoolwide SOAR expectations.
• Address behavioral concerns through appropriate redirection, documentation, and collaboration with families and support staff.
• Collaborate with exceptional children’s and English learner staff to implement required accommodations and services.
• Maintain accurate records and communicate regularly with families.
• Participate in instructional coaching, professional development, team meetings, and assigned supervision duties.

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.
• Valid North Carolina elementary teaching license preferred or eligibility for working towards appropriate licensure.
• Strong knowledge of elementary literacy and mathematics instruction.
• Ability to analyze assessment data and provide targeted academic support.
• Effective classroom management, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Commitment to culturally responsive instruction and scholar achievement.

Preferred:

• Three or more years of successful elementary teaching experience.
• Experience teaching third grade.
• Familiarity with North Carolina elementary assessments and reading interventions.
