The role emphasizes shift operations, adherence to safety protocols, routine testing, and accurate log keeping, with responsibilities for valves, gauges, and plant control systems to ensure reliable steam and energy delivery on campus.

Responsibilities

• Performs Central Heating Plant shift operations under the supervision of the Lead Operator, ensuring safe startup and shutdown of equipment and reliable steam generation.
• Maintains shift operating logs and records in accordance with site procedures.
• Performs basic electrical and mechanical inspections, troubleshooting, minor repairs, and maintenance tasks as assigned.
• Performs routine chemical testing and reads/records gauges and meters to monitor plant performance.
• Opens/closes valves and adjusts controls to regulate flows of operating fluids.
• Responsible for safe receiving, handling, and storage of ammonia, water treatment chemicals, and fuel oil as applicable.
• Cleans, maintains, and lubricates power plant and related auxiliary equipment, and keeps work areas clean.
• Assists in developing standard operating and maintenance procedures and utilizes the Central Heating Plant CMMS.
• Follows safe working practices, identifies hazards, and takes corrective action as needed.

Essential Functions

• Performs Central Heating Plant shift operations, under the functional supervision of the Lead Operator, including startup and shutdown of equipment assuring that electrical and steam generation is maintained in a safe and reliable manner.
• Complies with all site safety requirements and procedures.
• Maintains shift operating logs and records.
