Job summary

The Third Class Power Plant Engineer at University of Massachusetts Amherst will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Central Heating Plant equipment and systems, and assists with maintenance tasks as assigned.

You will perform shift operations, adhere to safety procedures, maintain logs, conduct basic inspections, handle chemicals and fuels, and support standard operating procedures in a power plant environment.

Qualifications

  • Possession of a Third Class Stationary Engineer’s License issued by the Massachusetts DP S.
  • Possession of a Grade 2-I full active or higher Certificate of Competency for wastewater facilities.
  • Ability to read and write effectively in English and do basic math.
  • Knowledge of power plant equipment and safety policies.
  • Ability to operate valves, switches, and controls in a plant environment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs Central Heating Plant shift operations under supervision.
  • Complies with site safety requirements and maintains shift logs.
  • Performs basic electrical and mechanical inspections and minor repairs.
  • Performs routine chemical testing and records results.
  • Reads gauges and records data; manages valves and controls.
