Job summary

The Third Assistant Engineer is a CIVMAR employed by the Navy to serve the Military Sealift Command onboard naval auxiliaries and hybrid-manned warships worldwide, in peace and war. MSC exists to support the joint warfighter across the full spectrum of military operations.

Monitors the safe and efficient operation of engineering machinery, enters data in logs, and reports special events. Performs routine maintenance and repair of engine room machinery and observes repairs by shipyard or shore

Responsibilities

• Monitor the safe and efficient operation of engineering machinery, equipment and spaces; enter data in logs and report special events.
• Perform routine maintenance and repair of engine room machinery and auxiliary equipment; observe repairs by shipyard or shore facilities.
• Manage cooling water treatment of main propulsion engines and auxiliary generators; monitor potable water testing and lube oil storage.
• Perform machinery overhauls, dismantle and reassemble equipment, test controls, safeties, shutdowns, and place equipment in service.
• Participate as a lifeboat crewmember and a firefighting and emergency response team leader.
• Ensure watch personnel are aware of duties during drills and participate in daily engineering casualty drills; report to Chief/First Assistant Engineer.
• All duties are considered essential functions and compliance with EEO laws and policies is required.
