Job summary

Lenovo is seeking a ThinkPad Offering Team Project Manager to lead cross-functional product development across the lifecycle, aligning schedule, cost, and quality with business goals. You will manage multiple generations, coordinate hardware and software efforts, and engage with global teams.

Occasional early/late meetings may be required. Responsibilities include planning, definition, development, qualification, launch, and post-launch support, plus executive status updates and risk mitigation.

Job description

Position Overview

The ThinkPad Offering Team Project Manager is responsible for leading the cross-functional development and delivery of ThinkPad products throughout the entire product lifecycle. This role combines the technical aspects of product development with the business responsibilities of managing a product program, requiring strong leadership, project management, and decision‑making skills. The role is accountable for delivering products on schedule, within project expense and product cost targets, while meeting customer expectations and business objectives. The successful candidate will support multiple product generations simultaneously, including products currently in market, next‑generation products in development, and future products in early planning. Due to collaboration with global teams, occasional early morning and evening meetings may be required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead cross‑functional Offering Core Teams through product planning, definition, development, qualification, launch, and post‑launch support.
  • Translate customer needs, market requirements, technology capabilities, and business objectives into optimized product definitions.
  • Develop and maintain integrated project plans, master schedules, resource plans, budgets, and project commitments.
  • Coordinate activities across hardware engineering, software engineering, marketing, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, services, and external partners.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, cost, project expense, product quality, and overall execution.
  • Identify project risks, develop mitigation strategies, and manage issues, changes, and dependencies throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Lead product scope discussions, investment reviews, development checkpoints, and executive status updates.
  • Make informed trade‑off decisions involving product features, schedule, cost, quality, and resource allocation.
  • Monitor project performance using key metrics and communicate progress to executive leadership.
  • Drive product launch readiness, including manufacturing transition, supply readiness, quality execution, and production ramp.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by monitoring product performance after launch and responding to changing business and market conditions.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business, or a related field.
  • Two or more years of project management or product development experience.
  • Experience supporting hardware and/or software product development.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of product development methodologies and project management principles.
  • Understanding of PC products, product development processes, and industry trends.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across cross‑functional organizations.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, global environment.
  • Willingness to support global teams, including occasional early morning and evening meetings.
  • MBA or advanced degree.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Experience leading cross‑functional hardware and software development programs.
  • Balanced background with exposure to both hardware and software development.
  • Knowledge of project planning, budgeting, forecasting, risk management, and change management.
  • Experience presenting project updates and recommendations to executive leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Interest in building a long‑term career supporting ThinkPad product development and innovation.
