Job summary

Amcor is seeking an Assistant Group Leader to support the Tool Room operations, ensuring molds and tooling are maintained, repaired, and ready to meet production needs. You will help direct Tool Room staff, prioritize maintenance, and uphold safety standards while driving continuous improvement and employee development.

You will contribute to preventive maintenance programs, track downtime, maintain accurate records, and communicate effectively across the department to meet operational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Pre-shift exercise before entering production area as required.
  • Direct/assist Tool Room personnel in daily mold and tool maintenance.
  • Assist with setting priorities for mold repairs.
  • Work with Tool Room to develop preventive maintenance programs.
  • Evaluate downtime and efficiency to improve productivity.
  • Keep Tool Room personnel informed of activities.
  • Assist in developing Tool Room policies for safety and efficiency.
  • Assist in training new employees and guiding work habits.
  • Enforce company policies, safety rules, and good practices.
  • Maintain records of maintenance on molds.
  • Procure and locate components for mold repairs.
  • Training in this position expands THM Tooling Tech responsibilities.

About the Role

As the Assistant Group Leader, you are responsible for supporting the leadership, organization, and daily operations of the Tool Room to ensure molds and tooling are properly maintained, repaired, and available to meet production requirements. You assist in directing Tool Room personnel, coordinating maintenance priorities, and promoting a safe, efficient, and productive work environment. You work closely with team members to support preventive maintenance programs, minimize downtime, maintain accurate records, and ensure compliance with company policies and safety standards. Additionally, you play an important role in employee training and development, continuous improvement efforts, and effective communication within the department to achieve operational goals.

Responsibilities
  • Pre-shift exercise / stretching activity to be performed before you can enter production area unless written doctor’s release can be provided to Human Resources.
  • Direct / Assist the Thermoform Tool Room personnel in day-to-day maintenance of the molds & tools.
  • Assist with/set priorities for the repairs of the molds.
  • Work with Tool Room groups to develop and follow preventive maintenance programs.
  • Evaluate down time and efficiency reports to determine productivity levels and areas requiring special attention.
  • Keep the Tool Room personnel informed on pertinent activities and information.
  • Assist in development of new Tool Room policies as necessary to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Assist in the development and training of new employees and direct the employees in their work habits.
  • Enforce all company policies, work rules, safety rules and good working practices.
  • Keep proper records on maintenance performed on all molds.
  • Requisition / procure, locate components/parts for mold repairs & maintenance.
  • Training in this position requires a thorough understanding of the above responsibilities and this is an extension of THM Tooling Tech responsibilities.
Qualifications
  • Positive attitude towards hard work, authority, team work and responsibility
  • Sincere, dependable and motivated
  • High school Diploma/GED Equivalent/Work Equivalent.
  • Must have a good work & attendance record.
  • Good math skills.
  • Good problem solving & analytical skills.
  • Must have good communication skills, written & verbal.
  • Should know how to use basic measuring tools such as micrometers & gauges.
  • Previous experience with lathes, mills, and grinders not essential, but would be a plus.
  • Mechanical Ability.
  • Fork truck experience a plus.
  • Must provide your own tools.
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds.
  • Ability to work around grease, oils, inks, and solvents without adverse reaction.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend or stoop through an entire 8 hour shift.
  • Must have good manual dexterity.
