Job summary

Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, seeks an Engineer Architect I to lead design and upgrades for steam, hot water, and thermal distribution systems, ensuring safe, reliable 24/7 operation.

You will collaborate with operations, maintenance, project management and consultants to evaluate conditions, plan renewals, oversee design and construction, and apply hydraulic modeling and lifecycle cost analysis for informed capital decisions.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 3–5 years in technical roles related to thermal distribution systems.
• Direct experience managing construction projects of any size.
• Ability to obtain NYS Professional Engineering license after required experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering leadership for steam, hot water, and thermal distribution systems.
• Design, reliability engineering, asset management, and capital project leadership.
• Evaluate system condition, develop renewal and upgrade strategies, supervise design/construction.
• Support commissioning, documentation control, regulatory compliance, and emergency response.
