Job summary

Vantage Consulting seeks a Thermal Systems Modeling Engineer in Charlotte, NC to advance data center cooling technology. You will apply HVAC expertise, thermodynamics and heat transfer to model heat flows and simulate system performance.

The role focuses on developing and optimizing chillers and refrigeration systems, working with engineering and manufacturing teams to bring new cooling solutions toward production onsite.

Qualifications

  • HVAC experience is essential.
  • Hands-on experience modelling heat flows / thermal system performance.
  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid dynamics.
  • Knowledge of refrigeration cycles and HVAC system behaviour.
  • 5+ years of thermal modelling experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 3+ years with a Master's.

Responsibilities

  • Model heat flows and thermal performance across HVAC and cooling systems.
  • Perform thermodynamic and heat-transfer analyses.
  • Simulate system performance across different loads and operating conditions.
  • Support design and optimization of chiller and refrigeration systems.
  • Analyse fluid dynamics, refrigerant performance and system efficiency.
  • Use MATLAB, Simulink, Ansys or similar tools.

Thermal Systems Modeling Engineer – Data Center Cooling
Charlotte, NC | Onsite | Full-time
$110,000–$125,000 + relocation support

I’m supporting a global leader in climate and energy solutions as they expand a new advanced engineering capability in Charlotte, developing the next generation of cooling technology for the rapidly growing data center market.

We’re looking for a Thermal Systems Modeling Engineer who combines a strong HVAC background with hands‑on experience modeling heat flows and thermal system performance.

This is not simply an HVAC design position. You’ll use thermodynamics, heat transfer and simulation to understand how cooling systems behave under different operating conditions and help engineers develop and optimize future chiller and data center cooling technologies.

What you'll be working on:
  • Modelling heat flows and thermal performance across HVAC and cooling systems
  • Performing thermodynamic and heat‑transfer analysis
  • Simulating system performance across different loads and operating conditions
  • Supporting the design and optimization of chiller and refrigeration systems
  • Analysing fluid dynamics, refrigerant performance and system efficiency
  • Using tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, Ansys or your own modelling code
  • Supporting laboratory testing and using real‑world results to improve models and designs
  • Working with engineering, product and manufacturing teams to take new technology towards production
What we're looking for:
  • HVAC experience is essential

  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid dynamics
  • Knowledge of refrigeration cycles and HVAC system behaviour
  • 5+ years of thermal modelling experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 3+ years with a Master's
  • Mechanical Engineering background preferred
  • Experience with MATLAB, Simulink, Ansys or similar thermal modelling/simulation tools
