Job summary

NxEdge Inc. is seeking a highly skilled materials scientist/engineer in Boise, Idaho to drive advanced coating solutions for semiconductor capital equipment.

You will design and optimize thermal spray coatings, collaborating with suppliers and customers to translate ideas into commercial products. Applicants should have PhD/Master/Bachelor in a relevant field, deep ceramics/plasma spray expertise, and hands-on experience with coating processes.

Qualifications

  • PhD/Master/Bachelor in a materials science, engineering or related field.
  • Deep knowledge of thermal spray coatings, especially ceramics and suspension plasma spray.
  • Strong coating characterization and performance analysis background.
  • Hands-on ability with thermal spray equipment and process controls.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate materials science and coating physics to advance coating solutions for semiconductor capital equipment.
  • Collaborate with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to capture market needs and shape coating roadmaps.
  • Identify new applications and develop innovative surface technology solutions.
  • Lead end-to-end product development from concept to commercialization ensuring performance and reliability.
  • Resolve coating-related issues using scientific analysis and engineering principles.
  • Apply DOE methods to optimize coating parameters under multivariable conditions.
  • Evaluate coatings via micrograph analysis and interpret analytical performance data.

This role sits at the intersection of materials science and advanced engineering, focused on developing innovative coating solutions—particularly for high-performance applications in semiconductor capital equipment. You'll work with cutting-edge technologies like ceramics and suspension plasma spray to engineer surfaces that meet rigorous functional demands.

As a key member of the Engineering Center of Excellence in Boise, ID, you'll:

  • Lead the design and optimization of thermal spray coatings
  • Collaborate across teams—from suppliers to customers—to turn ideas into real-world commercial products
  • Use advanced analytical techniques and Design of Experiments (DOE) to fine-tune processes
  • Apply hands‑on skills with equipment and data analysis to solve complex coating challenges

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Integrate principles of materials science and coating physics to advance coating solutions for semiconductor capital equipment.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to capture market requirements and shape coating material roadmaps.
  • Identify emerging application opportunities and develop innovative solutions for complex surface technology challenges.
  • Lead end-to-end product development, from concept design through to commercialization, ensuring performance and reliability targets are met.
  • Resolve coating‑related issues by applying scientific analysis and engineering principles.
  • Apply advanced Design of Experiments (DOE) methodologies to optimize coating parameters under multivariable conditions.
  • Conduct detailed evaluations of coatings through micrograph analysis and interpretation of analytical performance data.
Qualifications:
  • PhD, Master’s, or Bachelor's Degree (with equivalent experience) in Materials Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • In‑depth knowledge of thermal spray technologies, particularly ceramics and suspension plasma spray.
  • Strong background in coating characterization and performance analysis.
  • Hands‑on expertise with thermal spray equipment and process controls.
  • Demonstrated leadership in technical product development and cross‑disciplinary project teams.
  • Exceptional communication skills—both written and verbal—to articulate complex technical concepts.
  • Highly self‑motivated with a proactive, collaborative, and customer‑focused mindset.
  • Experience with semiconductor capital equipment is a strong plus.
