QuantumScape Battery, Inc. is seeking a Thermal/Mechanical Engineer to own the physical design of battery-system enclosures. You will translate racks and packs into manufacturable shelves that fit and service quickly in a data-center-like environment.

You’ll run CFD analyses, design in SolidWorks or Creo, collaborate with hyperscaler teams, and ensure compliance with safety and reliability standards. This on-site role requires dedication to rapid qualification and scalable production.

Qualifications

8+ years designing thermal-mechanical enclosures for rack-mount gear.
CFD thermal simulation proficiency required (Ansys Icepak, FloTHERM, or 6SigmaET).
CAD proficiency in SolidWorks or Creo for detailed designs.
Sheet metal design for high-volume manufacturing and tolerance stackup.
Track record with contract manufacturing and production thermal validation.
Understanding of airflow management in forced-convection racks.

Responsabilités

Design complete mechanical enclosure (1OU/2OU) in CAD, including sheet metal chassis and interfaces.
Address core thermal challenges with airflow paths, heat spreaders, and isolation zones.
Run CFD simulations to optimize airflow under worst-case electrical loads.
Ensure mechanical design meets OCP/ORv3 specs, enclosure width, depth, and interfaces.
Develop hot-swap sleds with proper insertion/extraction forces and blind-mate connectors.
Collaborate with battery systems engineer on mounting, compression, and isolation.
Perform vibration/shock analysis per ISTA 3-series and GR-63-CORE requirements.
Lead DFM engagement with contract manufacturers and tooling considerations.
Support UL 62368-1 mechanical and flammability requirements.
