Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant field for licensed clinical work.
  • 3+ years of experience in child development, attachment issues and trauma-informed care.
  • Associate license working toward clinical licensure (LCSW/LMHC/LMFT/LCAC).
  • Understanding of abuse/neglect issues and family dynamics.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and strong organization skills.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct biopsychosocial assessments and clinical evaluations for youth in shelter.
  • Provide individual and group therapy addressing trauma and emotional needs.
  • Develop behavior support plans and document progress toward goals.
  • Use evidence-based, trauma-informed interventions.
  • Deliver crisis intervention and de-escalation as needed.
  • Assist with safety planning and risk assessments.
  • Collaborate with caregivers, DCS, probation, schools, and partners.
  • Complete clinical documentation within required timelines.
  • Participate in meetings, supervision, and trainings.
  • Support discharge planning and aftercare coordination.

Firefly Children & Family Alliance is currently seeking a Therapist for our Residential Facility in Indianapolis, IN. The Shelter Therapist provides trauma-informed therapeutic services to youth residing in the Emergency Shelter Care (ESC) program. The Therapist works collaboratively with direct care staff, case managers, respite families, and community partners to support youth stabilization, emotional well-being, treatment planning, and successful discharge outcomes. This position requires flexibility in scheduling and includes after school and evening hours.

You Will:
Clinical Services (75%)
  • Conduct biopsychosocial assessments and clinical evaluations for youth entering the shelter program.
  • Provide individual and group therapy to youth experiencing emotional, behavioral, and trauma-related challenges.
  • Develop and maintain individualized Behavior Support Plans and document progress toward treatment goals.
  • Utilize evidence-based and trauma-informed therapeutic interventions.
  • Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation support during behavioral health crises.
  • Completing homicidal/suicide/self-harm assessments when needed.
  • Creating individualized safety plan.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings and contribute clinical recommendations.
  • Assist youth in developing healthy coping skills, emotional regulation skills, and positive interpersonal relationships.
  • Collaborate with caregivers, DCS, probation officers, schools, and community providers to support continuity of care.
Program Support & Documentation (25%)
  • Complete required clinical documentation within agency and regulatory timelines.
  • Maintain compliance with Indiana DCS licensing standards and agency policies.
  • Support discharge planning and aftercare coordination.
  • Consult with direct care staff regarding therapeutic interventions and behavior support strategies.
  • Participate in staff meetings, supervision, and required trainings.
  • Assist with program quality improvement initiatives and clinical outcome tracking.
You Have:
  • Master's degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling or Marriage and Family Therapy
  • 3+ years’ experience in child development, attachment issues, attachment specific treatment and trauma informed care
  • Knowledge of working with children with abuse, neglect issues, and family dynamics and basic skills in family counseling
  • Current associate license working towards a clinical license of LCSW, LMHC, LMFT, or LCAC
  • Understanding of issues facing children and families with history of abuse and neglect
  • Knowledge of family dynamics and basic skills in family counseling
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organization & time management skills
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must have valid driver's license with no more than 6 points and a valid insurance
