Job summary

HTU is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to provide respiratory care under supervision and adhere to established procedures. You will operate oxygen and gas equipment, record therapy data, and participate in ABG analysis and ventilator weaning, while ensuring patient comfort and safety.

You will communicate procedures to patients and families, work with a diverse age range, and maintain required BLS and other certifications, contributing to a high-quality care environment.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an AMA-approved Respiratory Therapy program.
• Current NBRC credential (Certified or Registered).
• Current license issued by the relevant state Board of Respiratory Care.
• Analytical ability to resolve problems using basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles.
• Effective communication skills to explain procedures to patients and families.
• Experience providing direct patient care across all age groups (neonate to geriatric).
• Current and continued Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications granted through the American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

• Provide respiratory care under supervision to stabilize or improve patient respiratory function.
• Operate oxygen and therapeutic gas equipment per prescriptions and safety procedures.
• Check equipment for proper functioning and record therapy and diagnostic data.
• Draw, analyze, and report ABGs to physicians and nurses.
• Perform EKGs.
• Participate in ventilator weaning protocols and MDI protocols.
• Engage in excellence and relationship-based care initiatives.

Your Role

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing respiratory care under general supervision and established procedures to stabilize, prevent, or remedy patient respiratory problems.
• Operating oxygen and therapeutic gas equipment to administer prescribed medical gases and aerosolized drugs safely.
• Regularly checking equipment for proper functioning and recording therapy and diagnostic data in patient charts.
• Drawing, analyzing, and reporting arterial blood gases (ABGs) to physicians and nurses.
• Performing EKGs.
• Participating in adult ventilator weaning and Metered Dose Inhaler (MDI) protocols.
• Engaging in excellence and relationship-based care initiatives.

About You

The company is looking for candidates who meet the following requirements:

• Graduate of an approved A.M.A. school for Respiratory Therapy.
• Current NBRC credential (Certified or Registered).
• Current license issued by the New Jersey State Board of Respiratory Care.
• Analytical ability to resolve problems using basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles.
• Effective communication skills to explain clinical, technical, and diagnostic procedures to patients and families, provide comfort, enforce policies, and handle difficult situations.
• Experience providing direct patient care across all age groups including neonate, pediatric, adolescent, young adult, adult, and geriatric patients.
• Current and continued Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Certifications for BLS, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) must be granted through the American Heart Association (effective January 2019).
