Overview
The therapist leads the collaboration among an interdisciplinary team to develop, coordinate, and facilitate direct social services interventions for patients assigned to their caseload and their support systems. The therapist uses empirically supported therapeutic techniques (e.g., cognitive-behavioral therapy, DBT, or family therapy) to aid in stabilization and recovery of individuals with mental and behavioral health concerns. The therapist creates a safe, supportive environment to help patients gain insight into the relationships between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and to work toward personal goals. The Therapist may perform other duties as directed by the manager/clinical operations supervisor to support direct patient care and system initiatives. The Therapist will work in an acute care setting that includes inpatient, residential, partial hospitalization, and/or intensive outpatient services.
Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours/week, 8:00am–4:30pm.
Responsibilities
- Conduct individual, group, and family therapy sessions to address patients\' needs and goals.
- Assess patients\' mental health concerns, strengths, and challenges through comprehensive assessments.
- Develop individualized treatment plans and guide implementation of clinical interventions, including facilitating treatment team meetings.
- Provide counseling and support using evidence-based therapeutic techniques to help patients manage symptoms and improve well-being within sessions and in the milieu.
- Educate patients about mental health and/or substance use conditions, self-care strategies, and treatment options to support engagement and aftercare planning.
- Document patient progress with detailed records of sessions, goals, and interventions; complete documentation within required timeframes.
- Collaborate with other professionals (internal and external) to coordinate care and ensure optimal outcomes.
- Adhere to ethical guidelines and maintain patient confidentiality.
- Pursue ongoing professional development to stay updated on best practices in the field.
- Report and document suspected cases of physical, sexual abuse and/or neglect according to state law and System policy.
- Maintain professional conduct and demonstrate an interdisciplinary approach and collaboration across departments.
- Support changes in staffing/scheduling to meet program and patient care needs.
- Participate in clinical initiatives, projects, and activities to support system-wide continuous improvement.
- Ensure understanding of Joint Commission, State, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Provide for patient safety and the safety of the facility.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including maintaining current knowledge of department processes and procedures, pursuing self-directed learning, and participating on committees as determined by management.
Education & Experience
- Master\'s Degree in Social Work or related field from an accredited program; experience in health care and psychiatric settings preferred.
- At minimum, in-training licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC-IT), Marriage and Family Therapist Training License (MFT-TL), Advance Practice Social Worker (APSW), or equivalent in the practicing state.
- If required by the program, SAC-IT, SAC, or CSAC credentialing in Wisconsin; relevant substance use specialty authorization for the state hired.
- Working knowledge of therapeutic interventions and techniques for all ages and understanding of human growth and behavior.
Required on-the-job Training
- Compliance with Residential Care Center (RCC) and Community Based Residential Facility (CBRF) requirements (Residential Inpatient programs preferred for all levels of care).
- American Heart Association CPR certification within 30 days of hire; bi-annual re-certification required.
- Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) training within 60 days of hire/transfer; annual re-certification required.
- Attend all mandatory in-services relevant to the position.
- Ensure all educational requirements and licensing obligations are met as required by the program/unit licensing regulations.
- Residential programs: hold a current, active driver\'s license in good standing (preferred for all levels of care).
