Job summary

Theuniversityunion in Birmingham, AL is seeking a licensed counselor to provide individual, group, and family counseling for adults with substance use and co-occurring disorders in Jefferson County. The role emphasizes crisis and family intervention, and acting as a liaison with other providers.

Requires a Master’s degree with practicum, at least two years’ related experience, Medicaid eligibility, and licensure/certification prospects within 30 months.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Behavioral Health, Counseling, or Social Work with a clinical practicum required.
• At least two years’ experience providing substance abuse treatment and/or prevention services, preferred.
• Eligible to perform Medicaid approved activities and be certified at a QSAP I level; licensure preferred or achievable within 30 months.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual, group and family counseling to adult men and/or women, including pregnant or postpartum individuals, and those in treatment for substance use or co-occurring disorders.
• Conduct psycho-social assessments and psycho-educational classes with clients and families according to the approved curriculum.
• Act as liaison between the client and other service providers; serve the Jefferson County service area.

Description

Provide individual, group and family counseling to adult men and/or women, including women who may be pregnant or post-partum, and/or adolescents who are receiving treatment for a substance use disorder or a co-occurring disorder. The Therapist will Conduct psycho-social assessments as needed; also conduct psycho-educational classes with clients and their families according to the approved curriculum. This is the perfect position for an individual who enjoys Crisis and family intervention and involvement as well as serving as a liaison between the client and other service providers. The service area is Jefferson County.

Requirements

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Behavioral Health, Counseling, or Social Work with a clinical practicum required
At least two years’ experience providing substance abuse treatment and/or prevention services, preferred

Ability to be eligible to perform Medicaid approved activities and be certified at a QSAP I level
Licensure and/certification as required by the Alabama Department of Mental Health (AADC/ADC, LPC, LICSW, LMFT, LMSW) preferred, or the ability to achieve licensure/certification within 30 months

If travel is required, must be willing to use and have your own personal transportation.

Mileage reimbursement for personal use of vehicle is included
