Job summary

The Nathaniel Clinic, a program of CASES, seeks a Therapist to provide trauma-informed, evidence-based outpatient mental health and substance use treatment in Central Harlem and the South Bronx. You will conduct assessments, develop individualized plans, and deliver individual, group, and family therapy within a multidisciplinary team.

Hybrid work arrangement with one remote day, Monday–Friday, 9:00 am–5:00 pm, and salary range of $75,000–$80,000 per year.

Qualifications

  • New York State LCSW/LMSW required.
  • Experience in recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, evidence-based practice.
  • Ability to develop and facilitate group psychotherapy.
  • Experience with diverse adults in mental health/substance use settings.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical treatment per scope of practice and regulations.
  • Conduct screenings and assessments using validated tools.
  • Develop recovery-oriented treatment plans with client and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate cases with CASES psychiatrists, nurses, case managers and staff.
  • Maintain timely EMR documentation per CASES policies and laws.
  • Deliver individual, group, and family therapy as clinically indicated.

Job Summary:

The Nathaniel Clinic, a program of CASES, provides compassionate, evidence-based outpatient mental health and substance use treatment to individuals impacted by the criminal legal system and the broader community. As part of CASES' mission to improve behavioral health, reduce incarceration, promote recovery, and increase public safety, clinicians deliver trauma-informed, culturally responsive care that supports long-term stability and successful community integration. Serving clients through our Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) in Central Harlem and Mental Health Outpatient Treatment and Rehabilitative Services (MHOTRS) program in the South Bronx, therapists conduct comprehensive assessments, develop individualized treatment plans, and provide individual, group, and family therapy. Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, clinicians address mental health conditions, substance use disorders, and criminogenic risk factors while coordinating care with internal and external partners to improve health outcomes and expand access to high-quality behavioral health services for all members of the community.

Salary:

The salary range for the Therapist role is $75,000 - $80,000 per year.

Shift Hours:

The Therapist position is full-time working Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Workplace Flexibility:

Hybrid - for roles that have one (1) day remote.

What you will be doing:
  • Providing compassionate clinical treatment in accordance with the scope of practice and regulations governing mental health outpatient treatment and recovery services.
  • Conduct screenings and assessments in accordance with the use of validated screening tools to screen and assess for depression, trauma, substance use, and risk and needs associated with criminogenic risk.
  • Develop person/family-centered, recovery-oriented treatment plans and review in collaboration with client, collaterals, and consented stakeholders such as significant others, criminal justice personnel, primary care health provider, care coordinator, and schools.
  • Coordinate cases with CASES psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, nursing staff, peers, case managers, and administrative staff.
  • Use sequential evidence screening for risk of violence including suicide and utilize risk management protocols to appropriately manage and intervene.
  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation using the Electronic Medical Record (EMR); document all services in accordance with CASES policies, NYS Office of Mental Health regulations and all relevant federal laws.
  • Conduct individual, family, group therapy as clinically indicated.
  • Utilize best and evidence-based approaches to treatment consistent with CASES’ organizational culture; health/mental health integration, rehabilitation and recovery, and understanding incarceration on treatment engagement.
  • Provide culturally competent services that are individualized to client needs and reflect the integration of race, ethnicity, culture, primary language, immigration status, developmental status, criminal justice status, sexuality, age, and gender.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement Measures and utilize dashboard data reports from the EHR to track client progress with symptom reduction, increased functioning, and use objective data to determine treatment needs and to support discharge planning.
  • Provide crisis intervention services as deemed appropriate and participate in the 24-hour emergency phone coverage on a rotating basis.
What we are looking for:
  • New York State LCSW/LMSW
  • Strong passion to work with those impacted by the criminal legal system
  • 1-3 years of experience in a clinic setting or at least two years of work experience at a licensed mental health or substance use program
  • Demonstrated expertise in recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, evidence-based practice
  • Demonstrated experience with diverse adults receiving mental health treatment, including delivery of treatment to individuals with serious mental illness, functional impairments and psychosocial needs (homelessness, justice involvement, poverty, unemployment)
  • Must feel comfortable with developing a group curriculum and facilitating or co-facilitating group psychotherapy
  • Therapist certification will be expected within three months of employment to receive the Integrated Mental Health/Addictions Treatment Training Certificate (IMHATT)
