Stony Brook University through Stony Brook Medicine seeks a Functional Therapeutic Activities Specialist to plan and conduct activities that promote functional independence and well-being for patients. You will lead life skills groups and work with the treatment team to deliver comprehensive care.

The role requires a Bachelor's in recreational/therapeutic therapy or related field, crisis prevention training, and strong communication and de-escalation skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a therapeutic activities field and one year of full-time experience planning and administering therapeutic activities in a hospital or related facility.
• PMCS or similar crisis prevention training is required.
• Superior verbal calming/de-escalation skills and a person-centered, trauma-sensitive approach.

Responsabilités

• Plan, promote, and carry out therapeutic activities as directed by the treatment program.
• Monitor patient responses and inform the treatment team of requests and progress.
• Maintain inventory of supplies and prepare the space for safe, therapeutic sessions.
• Document attendance and progress notes; collaborate with nursing, social work and therapy staff.
