Job summary

Harboroaks in Germantown, TN seeks an experienced Therapeutic Recreation professional to plan, direct and implement activity therapy as part of patients’ treatment plans. You will assess needs, design and lead programs, and ensure patient safety while promoting well‑being.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Therapeutic Recreation, 3+ years in healthcare recreation, CPR and de‑escalation training; CTRS or related licensure is preferred or in process. Master’s degree is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreational Therapy or related field required.
• Master’s degree preferred.
• Three or more years’ experience in recreation in a healthcare setting with knowledge of patient population served by the facility required.
• CTRS or currently in the process of obtaining national certification; OR licensed in expressive therapy area or related certification.
• CPR and de-escalation and restraint certification required.
• First aid may be required based on state or facility requirements.

Responsibilities

• Complete activity assessment through patient observation and patient/family interview to develop treatment plans.
• Plan, organize, direct and implement activities within the treatment program to progress toward goals.
• Lead activities including therapeutic leisure skills, education and awareness.
• Facilitate sessions to improve patient mental and physical well‑being.
• Instruct patients in activities such as sports, dance, music, art or relaxation techniques.
• Develop and implement activity interventions to meet patient needs and goals.
• Engage patients in therapeutic activities and community outings.
• Help patients learn social skills to promote independence.
• Modify activities to suit different groups and ensure safety.
• Demonstrate a positive, empathetic and professional attitude toward customers; address complaints and ensure safety.
