Apple Rehab Saybrook, a 100-bed skilled nursing and rehabilitation community in Old Saybrook CT, is seeking a Therapeutic Recreation Assistant on a per diem basis. You will support development and execution of therapeutic recreation services for residents under supervision, ensuring activities meet physical, emotional needs and respect residents' rights.

The role emphasizes creating engaging programs, coordinating with staff, and promoting resident well-being.

Qualifications

• Must have a vehicle and a valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
• Ability to provide rotating weekend coverage of recreation activities.
• Preferred at least one year of experience in rehabilitative or geriatric settings.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing a full range of therapeutic recreational programs and activities for all residents with consideration of physical and emotional limitations.
• Plan activities around religious days, events, holidays and traditional celebrations.
• Encourage resident participation and tailor activities to individual functioning levels.
• Advise residents on their Residents Bill of Rights and report concerns to supervisor.
• Maintain confidentiality of Resident Council minutes and care plan issues.
• Report grievances and complaints promptly to the supervisor.
• Foster self-worth and respect through kind, understanding interactions.

Job Opportunity: Therapeutic Recreation Assistant

Schedule: Per Diem

Responsibilities: Working the Director of Therapeutic Recreations, the Therapeutic Recreation Assistant assists in the development and execution of therapeutic recreational services to all residents with supervision in accordance with federal, state and local standards. Helps ensure the highest quality recreation program is provided.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assists in the development of a full range of therapeutic recreational programs and activities for all residents with appropriate concern for residents’ physical and emotional limitations, and individual interests.
• Ensures observance of religious days, social events, national holidays and traditional celebrations when planning residents’ calendar of events. Utilizes community support in establishing volunteer programs and intergenerational events.
• Encourages resident participation in therapeutic recreational activities. Carries out activities appropriate to resident’s level of functioning.
• Knows and complies with the Residents’ Bill of Rights. Through Resident Council, advises and instructs the residents on issues and changes pertaining to Residents Bill of Rights and their responsibilities.
• Maintains confidentiality and privacy in reporting of Resident Council minutes and care plan issues.
• Reports immediately to the supervisor all resident grievances and complaints.
• Fosters feeling of self-worth and respect by treating residents with kindness and understanding.

Minimum Requirements:

• Must have a vehicle and a valid drivers’ license and a safe driving record.
• Ability to provide rotating weekend coverage of recreation activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Possess at least one year experience in rehabilitative or geriatric setting.
• Must meet requirements of Therapeutic Recreation Assistant as stated in the Public Health Code.
