St. Mary's Healthcare System for Children seeks a Therapeutic Activities Assistant to coordinate recreational activities for children in a Medical Day Care Program. This role involves ensuring therapeutic care, assisting with homework, and maintaining a safe environment. Ideal candidates are creative, responsible, and have experience working with children.
Therapeutic Activities Assistant coordinates recreational and related activities for Medical Day Care Program that provide for client care, treatment, rehabilitation and social and psychological adjustment. Supports Hospital's mission to provide the highest quality care by complying with regulatory guidelines, meeting agency standards, and obtaining appropriate certification.
JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Carries over creative therapeutic activities appropriate for children's developmental levels.
2. Assists children in homework, tutoring them when necessary.
3. Serves nutritional snacks and meals to children in accordance with program requirements.
4. Acts as a role model for children providing a positive example of maturity, and responsibility.
5. Follows directives/suggestions from Senior Therapeutic Activities Assistants regarding program decisions.
6. Escorts children in a safe, appropriate manner.
7. Maintains program space, setting up and cleaning up the room before and after each use and ensuring that toys and equipment are properly disinfected after each use.
8. Follows safety precautions, notices potential hazardous situations and takes corrective action.
9. Implements therapeutic goals using modeling, positive reinforcement, encouragement, verbal cues, prompting, firm limit setting and support.
10. Completes Daily contact notes in the eMR.
Requirements
Formal education required:
High school diploma required.
Some college work in education; psychology or recreation preferred.
Two years experience working with children.
