  • Six months of experience as an Aide Trainee (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Six months of work experience providing care to individuals requiring assistance with daily activities; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Responsibilities

  • Lead recreational and educational activities that help residents build skills and confidence.
  • Provide direction to volunteers and teach safe practices during programs.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position helps residents at the Southwestern Veterans Center take part in activities that support physical, cognitive, and social well‑being. The role focuses on leading planned sessions, assisting with outings, and creating a safe and supportive environment. As a Therapeutic Activities Aide, you will perform the following duties:

  • Activity Support: Lead recreational and educational activities that help residents build skills and confidence
  • Volunteer Guidance: Provide direction to volunteers and teach safe practices during programs
  • Resident Assistance: Escort residents to activities, assist with transfers, and ensure safety during outings
  • Supply Management: Maintain activity supplies, prepare materials, and complete housekeeping tasks in activity areas
  • Behavior Observation: Observe resident actions, document participation, and report incidents or safety concerns

Work Schedule and Additional Information
  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week, 8 hours per day
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, working every weekend and alternating holidays, schedule may vary based on operational needs
  • Travel and overtime may be required
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non‑negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements
  • Six months of experience as an Aide Trainee (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Six months of work experience providing care to individuals requiring assistance with daily activities; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirements
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements
  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
