Job summary

Southwestern Veterans Center seeks a compassionate Therapeutic Activities Aide to inspire and engage residents in activities that support physical, cognitive, and social well-being. You will lead sessions, assist with outings, and foster a safe, supportive environment for veterans.

The role requires coordinating with volunteers, escorting residents to events, and maintaining activity supplies while ensuring safety and compliance with program goals.

Qualifications

• Six months of experience as an Aide Trainee (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
• Six months of work experience providing care to individuals requiring assistance with daily activities
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

This position helps residents at the Southwestern Veterans Center take part in activities that support physical, cognitive, and social well-being. The role focuses on leading planned sessions, assisting with outings, and creating a safe and supportive environment. As a Therapeutic Activities Aide, you will perform the following duties:

• Activity Support: Lead recreational and educational activities that help residents build skills and confidence
• Volunteer Guidance: Provide direction to volunteers and teach safe practices during programs
• Resident Assistance: Escort residents to activities, assist with transfers, and ensure safety during outings
• Supply Management: Maintain activity supplies, prepare materials, and complete housekeeping tasks in activity areas
• Behavior Observation: Observe resident actions, document participation, and report incidents or safety concerns
• Program Participation: Attend trainings, take part in meetings, and support facility improvement efforts

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment, 40 hours per week, 8 hours per day
• Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, working every weekend and alternating holidays, schedule may vary based on operational needs
• Travel and overtime may be required
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

Qualifications

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

Additional Requirements:

• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

• A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
• This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
