THE POSITION

As a part-time Nurse Aide with the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) at the Gino J. Merli Veterans' Center, you will play a key part in creating a safe, steady, and encouraging environment for veterans and their spouses. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position focuses on providing non‑professional nursing care and supporting daily routines for residents at the Gino J. Merli Veterans' Center. As a Nurse Aide, you will perform the following duties:

  • Resident Support: Assist residents with daily activities, grooming, meals, transfers, and restorative programs
  • Care Observation: Observe resident conditions, report changes, answer call bells, and participate in shift‑to‑shift updates
  • Room Care: Maintain organized resident rooms, remove obstacles, report concerns, and support a neat homelike environment
  • Equipment Use: Apply stockings, elastic bandages, and skin care products, and gather vital signs and related information
  • Documentation Tasks: Record all care and services performed for residents on appropriate forms
  • Transport Assistance: Escort residents to appointments, move residents safely, and monitor outdoor areas when needed

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Part‑time employment, 20 hours per week
  • Work hours are 2nd shift (3:00 PM to 11:30 PM) and 3rd shift (11:00 PM to 7:30 AM), with a 30‑minute lunch. You will be required to work every other weekend.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry; or
  • Six months of paid experience in the care and treatment of geriatric or physically ill patients or residents.
  • This position is assigned to a long‑term or specialized care facility and requires active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry.

Additional Requirement:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
