Job summary

Northlight Theatre in Evanston IL is hiring a Technical Director to ensure the best possible on-stage product by implementing all scenic technical requirements within the pre-set budget. The TD will supervise the Scene Shop, evaluate designers' drawings, estimate labor and materials, and manage drafting, rigging, and control systems.

Qualifications

• Must be an able carpenter/welder with excellent management, supervisory, and communication skills.
• Able to evaluate designer’s drawings, cost out productions, drafting skills (manual and computer), rigging skills, and labor/time estimates.
• Must be able to manage active scene shop including budgeting, bidding, and administrative duties.
• Valid driver’s license, able to drive 25’ truck.
• Knowledge of CNC routing, electronics, hydraulics, and automation/motor controls a plus.
• Flexibility to work a fluctuating schedule required.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the best possible product on stage by implementing all scenic technical requirements within budget.
• Manage Northlight Scene Shop operations and staffing.
• Coordinate with Production Manager and designers throughout productions.
• Oversee budgeting, bidding and administrative tasks for scene shop.
