Job summary

Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia is seeking an Assistant Technical Director to join our fast-paced production team. The ATD will work closely with the Technical Director on implementing scenic elements for mainstage, studio, and children's theatre productions, while supervising shop staff and apprentices and budgeting scenic designs.

Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD drafting, including 3D drafting techniques.
• Minimum 3-5 years professional scene shop experience, including experience in Technical Direction.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 office suite.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Proficient in theatrical rigging, electrical wiring, and CNC Programming.
• Ability to drive a 16' box truck in a city environment.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with TD to engineer, develop, and draft all scenic elements and shop drawings using AutoCAD.
• Assist TD in providing accurate material and labor estimates for all scenic, paint, and props for all productions.
• Research material and build methods for scenic elements.
• Maintain build and load-in schedules.
• Schedule and supervise all shop personnel.
• Provide training for shop apprentices.
• Order materials as required.
• Assist TD in scheduling and arranging scenery, props, and tool transportation between shop and theatre.
• Attend all load-in, load-out and technical rehearsals as needed.
• Maintain an accurate inventory of tools, soft goods, and stored scenic elements.
• Foster a safe, positive working environment.

Director to join our fast-paced production team. The ATD works closely with Technical

Director in the implementing all scenic elements for WST’s mainstage, studio, and

children’s theatre productions; supervising all scene shop staff and apprentices, and
