Job summary

Barrington Stage Company in Pittsfield, MA is seeking a Technical Director to oversee the scenic shop for the 2026 season. You will work with designers to realize drawings, supervise run crew and load-ins, and ensure safe, timely production goals.

The ideal candidate has strong leadership, hands-on carpentry, and proficiency with Vectorworks/AutoCAD; experience with rigging, CNC, welding, and maintaining equipment. This full-time seasonal role offers housing and opportunities for advancement.

Qualifications

• Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Experience with drafting and scenic construction.
• Solid hands-on carpentry skills including metalwork and welding.
• Experience with rigging and counterweight fly systems.

Responsibilities

• Read scripts and learn all aspects of the scenic elements.
• Manage the run crew and properties teams to provide all scenic support for productions and events throughout the 2026 season.
• Collaborate with scenic designers to provide technical drawings and source equipment for designs.
• Maintain accurate paperwork including technical drafts and scenic cue sheets.
• Prepare cost estimates of labor, materials, and rental costs during pre-production to stay within budget.
• Coordinate load-in/out and supervise stage staff and overhire as needed.
• Train run crew in scenic moves and changes.
• Assist in repair of scenic elements and organize inventory.
