Job summary

Fort Lewis College seeks a Theatrical Technical Director to oversee the safety and technical theatre needs of productions and the building. This staff position sits in the Theatre area of the Department of Performing Arts.

Responsibilities include managing student crews, attending meetings and rehearsals, creating production schedules, and budgeting for sets, props, sound, lights, and costumes. The role reports to the Chair and involves safety training and coordination with Physical Plant.

Qualifications

• Experience managing students in the sceneshop.
• Experience constructing scenery.
• Ability to mentor students in technical theatre.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safety of students, faculty, staff and patrons in the building for all events and daily classes.
• Manage student build crews and attend production meetings.
• Attend technical rehearsals and create production schedules for the season.
• Manage budgets for sets, props, sound, lights, costumes for all productions.
• Identify and manage maintenance budgets for production equipment.
• Coordinate with Physical Plant for repairs and issues in performance spaces.
• Oversee safety procedures and train students on equipment use and safety.
• Advise season selection with respect to department size and schedule needs.
• Coordinate with other departments as needed.
• Maintain accessibility compliance and related documentation.

Education

Completed degree in theatrical design
