Job summary

The Academy of Music Theatre in Northampton, MA is seeking a Technical Director to oversee lighting, sound, rigging, projections and all technical operations. The TD coordinates maintenance, upgrades and serves as the primary contact for renters during productions.

Responsibilities include advancing shows, arranging supplemental gear, staffing with IATSE Local 232, and supervising stage crews while managing safety and budget considerations.

Responsibilities

• Advancing shows to determine necessary technical supports: lighting, sound, etc., for events and performances at the Academy.
• Arranges for supplemental gear for Academy productions within budgets, coordinated with staff.
• Works with IATSE Local 232 Steward to schedule stagehand labor for all shows.
• Plans and provides for setup, maintenance and operation of house systems (rigging, lighting, projections, sound).
• Coordinates and oversees set design and construction for Academy productions.
• Oversees stage crews and backstage area, collaborates with IATSE 232 to maintain safe working conditions.
• Monitors condition and maintenance of Academy equipment; recommends upgrades and inventories supplies.
• Assists in preparation and monitoring of productions budgets.
• Supports Theatre Manager with facility maintenance.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
