Job description

At Casper College, the Theatre Shop Supervisor is also known as the Scene Shop Foreman. This position oversees the construction of scenic elements and the installation of lighting equipment for the Department of Theatre and Dance productions. These duties are performed under the direction of the Technical Theatre faculty.

  • Oversee scenic construction, including painting
  • Oversee lighting equipment installation
  • Oversee maintenance of scene shop equipment, including inventory
  • Communicate and maintain safety standards
  • Work collaboratively with designers and directors
  • Communicate with staff, students, and faculty
  • Supervise Stagecraft Lab, work‑study, and production students
  • Participate in strikes for all productions
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Wood (carpentry) skills
  • Metal working skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with artistic staff
  • Ability to supervise and work patiently with students
  • Experience with power tools
  • Knowledge of shop safety procedures
  • Ability to perform physical labor for the duration of the shift

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to mechanical parts, power tools, fumes, and airborne particles. The employee occasionally works at heights and works with and around machinery with moving parts. The majority of the time will be spent indoors in a climate-controlled environment, but occasionally, various weather conditions will be encountered while traveling between buildings and working near/on the dock. The noise level in the work environment is typically at a normal level, but occasionally moderate to high levels of noise will be encountered during certain activities (i.e. using the shop vac, power tools, wood lathe, etc). Weekend/evening work may be required.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is normally required to stand and/or walk for long periods of time, climb or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch or crawl; use hands and arms, sit and talk; or hear. The position requires the ability to carry supplies, move scenic materials/props and equipment, and work on ladders. Frequent lifting/moving of up to 50 pounds and occasional lifting/moving in excess of 50 pounds with or without assistance may be expected. Work duties require a high level of physical exertion for the duration of the work shift. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, ability to focus, peripheral vision, and depth perception. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
