Job summary

Johnson County Park and Recreation District (JCPRD) invites skilled Scenic Carpenters to build and install Theatre in the Park scenery. You will work with the Scene Shop Foreman and Master Carpenter on site backstage, ensuring quality pieces and timely delivery.

The role requires familiarity with scenic construction techniques, reading drawings, and lifting 50–75 lbs. The onsite schedule is Sunday–Thursday, 7:00 am–3:45 pm, with safety as a priority.

Qualifications

• Work under supervision of Scene Shop Foreman and Master Carpenter to construct scenic elements and maintain the scene shop.
• Familiar with scenic construction techniques and terms.
• Read, write, and mark measurements in feet and inches.
• Must lift 50–75 lbs and work from standing, kneeling, or bending positions for extended periods.
• Ensure safety protocols are always observed.
• Assist scenic painters or other Theatre in the Park staff as needed.

Responsibilities

• Construct scenic elements and maintain the scene shop.
• Fabricate on site in the Scene Shop backstage.
• Use various materials (lumber, steel, PVC, foam, etc.) to build pieces.
• Work to production deadlines and maintain clean work areas.
