Job summary

University of Wisconsin-Superior is seeking a Scene Shop Carpenter/Painter for the theatre season. This student hourly role involves building and painting scenery, maintaining the scene shop and stage safety, and assisting with lighting and box office duties as needed.

Ideal candidates are current or incoming UWS students with a passion for theatre tech, able to lift 75 pounds, climb ladders, and commit to at least 5 hours per week. Training will be provided.

Qualifications

• The candidate must be a current or incoming University of Wisconsin–Superior student and eligible for federal work-study.
• Enthusiasm for technical theatre and theatre production work is preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and work on ladders or powered lifts when required.
• Must be able to work a minimum of 5 hours per week; more hours possible with production needs.

Responsibilities

• Follow supervisor instructions to build/paint scenery, maintain props and hang masking curtains.
• Maintain organization and safety of the scene shop and performance stage.
• Assist with lighting and sound tasks when assigned, with training provided.
• Help with general shop organization, inventory, and equipment management.
• Attend scheduled theatre employee meetings and work Saturdays/Sundays as needed.
