Job summary

The Old Globe is seeking a dedicated Accountant to support the Finance team in maintaining accurate financial records and assisting with monthly close processes for a nonprofit theatre company.

Responsibilities include preparing journal entries, AP coordination, payroll support, audits, and tax filings while mentoring the Accounts Payable Assistant. Strong Excel and nonprofit accounting experience preferred.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, including general ledger and month-end close.
• Experience preparing and posting journal entries and account reconciliations.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
• Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with Excel and accounting software.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines with high accuracy.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to handle confidential information.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day guidance to the Accounts Payable Assistant.
• Review AP activity for accuracy and policy compliance.
• Prepare, review, and post monthly journal entries with schedules.
• Coordinate with Accounting Manager on the monthly AP close.
• Reconcile and report Sales/Use Taxes and Union Benefits & Dues.
• Perform balance sheet reconciliations and GL account reconciliations.
• Support payroll processing, reconciliations, and reporting.
• Assist with annual audits and tax filings (1099s) as assigned.
• Contribute to a culture of strong financial controls.
