Job summary

Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago is seeking a part-time bartender for Front Bar, connected to the main theater at 1700 N Halsted. You will provide friendly, efficient beverage service and support theater operations in a busy, welcoming environment.

Hours span from noon to 2 AM daily, with evenings and weekends peak times. Compensation is $17.32 per hour plus tips; governed by a union contract. This role reports to the Food and Beverage Director.

Qualifications

• Experience as a bartender and/or server in a high-volume bar or restaurant
• Knowledge of spirits, craft beer and wine
• Comfortable interacting with a variety of guests in a busy environment
• Present a relaxed appearance and tone with an unhurried pace
• Able to problem-solve in improvised situations

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve quality beverages in a friendly and efficient manner
• Provide adaptive service mindful of theater operations
• Maintain station cleanliness and sanitation; ensure beverage quality
• Educate guests about beverage and food options
• Engage patrons as courteous, professional representatives
• Assist guests with disabilities with accessibility etiquette
• Coordinate with box office and other departments to streamline service
• Monitor and maintain public spaces for safety, cleanliness and presentation
• Serve as knowledgeable sources of information about the theatre and city
