Job summary

Contra Costa Community College District in Martinez, CA is seeking a Theater Staging Specialist for a TEMP Assignment. The role oversees construction, maintenance and operation of stage sets and theater systems, with 9 months duration and up to 40 hours per week.

Responsibilities include directing technical theatre operations, coordinating with directors/designers, and training student staff. Requires 2+ years' experience and an Associate degree or equivalent in theater production.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of experience in an industry or academic technical theater setting with exposure to all facets of performing arts, including lead responsibility.
• Associate degree or equivalent in theater production or related field.
• Experience with stage lighting, audio, video, rigging and construction for theater productions.
• Knowledge of lighting controls, fixtures, audio systems and rigging technology.
• Ability to prepare and supervise construction and installation of stage elements.
• Safety, bookkeeping basics and inventory management related to theatre operations.
• Strong mathematical skills and ability to estimate material costs.
• Ability to lead small teams of 1–6 backstage technicians.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical direction in theater operation and supervise equipment use.
• Collaborate with directors/designers on production viability and schedules.
• Construct scenery and props; operate power/hand tools and machinery.
• Plan and supervise stage set construction, electrical work, and new installations.
• Create technical drawings, descriptions and construction plans.
• Maintain tools and equipment in safe working order; coordinate repairs as needed.
• Supervise and train students in workshop and theater operations.
• Provide instructional staff with materials; prep spaces for teaching and events.
• Estimate labor and material costs; manage inventory and budgets.
• Provide technical advice to user groups and ensure safety in the theater.
