Job summary

The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts seeks a Zilkha Hall House Carpenter to support productions and events, plan and repair carpentry and rigging, and work directly with clients. This hands-on role requires familiarity with various event types including musical theatre, concerts, and corporate events.

Responsibilities include maintaining rigging systems, coordinating with other spaces, troubleshooting and repairing stage equipment, and supervising over hire crews.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• 3–5 years’ experience as theatrical carpenter/rigger, ideally in a performing arts center.
• Proficiency with single purchase counterweight rigging system operation and maintenance.
• Experience with lighting, audio, and projection is helpful.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and oversee operation of the counterweight rigging system to ensure safe movement of stage drops and scenery.
• Maintain and operate motorized facility rigging, safety, and door equipment.
• Oversee appropriate use of facility drops/curtains (soft goods).
• Maintain orchestra pit lift and related stage equipment.
• Plan for and recommend purchases of new equipment when needed.
• Ensure client compliance with policies and procedures.
• Supervise over hire carpenters and rigging crew.
