Job summary

The Hobby Center’s Zilkha Hall House Carpenter is part of the house crew providing technical support for productions and events at Zilkha Hall, Downtown Houston. This hands-on role plans, maintains, repairs and coordinates carpentry and rigging elements for diverse programming.

Responsibilities include operating the counterweight rigging system, maintaining motorized rigging and safety equipment, and supervising over hire crew.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of experience as a theatrical carpenter/rigger.
• Proficient with counterweight rigging systems.
• Experience with lighting, audio, and projection helpful.
• Familiarity with Microsoft applications.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and to climb and work at heights.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and operate the counterweight rigging system for safe movement of drops and scenery.
• Operate motorized facility rigging, safety, and door equipment.
• Oversee use of drops/curtains (soft goods).
• Maintain Serapid-Linklift orchestra pit lift.
• Maintain inventory of stage supplies, hardware, and tools.
• Identify maintenance needs and plan upgrades; perform repairs to ensure event readiness.
• Supervise over hire carpenters and rigging crew.
